The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has issued a strong response to recent statements made by former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, regarding the 2027 political transition. The youth organization expressed serious concerns about public comments advocating the use of force in political processes.
Through its National Coordinator, Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, NDYC emphasized its commitment to protecting democratic principles and maintaining peace in the Niger Delta region. The organization specifically addressed statements suggesting the use of “brutal force” in political transitions, describing such rhetoric as potentially harmful to Nigeria’s democratic stability.
The youth congress highlighted concerns about the implications of such statements on regional peace and national security. NDYC’s response included a critical assessment of governance issues during Amaechi’s tenure as Rivers State Governor, citing specific examples such as the Port Harcourt Monorail project and its impact on state resources.
In its statement, NDYC called for appropriate action from security agencies regarding public statements that could potentially incite violence or disturb public peace. The organization reaffirmed its dedication to protecting democratic institutions and maintaining stability in the Niger Delta region.
The youth congress concluded by emphasizing its role in safeguarding peace and democracy in the region, stating its readiness to resist any attempts to compromise Nigeria’s democratic processes. NDYC maintains that political ambitions must not override the region’s stability and national unity.
